The Weekend Guide : Things To Do in Burlington, Vermont

6.29.2011

The French influence is still verdant in Burlington,Vermont... There's Lake Champlain, the gourmet cheeses & fruit plates, the cafes, restaurants, and it has managed to keep that quaint, old-world charm  that remains in many parts of Europe. It really feels like an American version of Switzerland here, with green pastures, farms and beautiful landscapes.

Things to Do: A cruise along the lake is a must, preferably at sunset, and for a dash of French flair have lunch or dinner at Leunig's Bistro. For breakfast, make a beeline to The Skinny Pancake for some tasty crepes and then go for a stroll through the Church Street Marketplace, Burlington's social center.
Extra: One of my favorite parts was stopping at Dakin Farm on the way back to NYC to pick up some of the state's famous maple syrup and natural honey direct from the honeybees... yummees.

I love finding those great little bars that have their own style and charm. There are more of them in the States and Europe of course, but I have found a few in Canada, particularly in Victoria. I am sure there are tons out East.

Looked like a great time! Well Vermont is a lot closer for me to get to (and cheaper) than France or Switzerland so I guess it's worth a visit sometime this summer ;P thanks for sharing!!!

Lake Champlain is so beautiful! I really like all the cheesy touristy things about Champ, the "Loch Ness Monster" of Lake Champlain. I thought it was so funny! Next time I am buying a tee shirt :)
