7 Amazing Secluded Beaches

Monday

Who doesn't dream of that perfect secluded beach you can have all to yourselves, tucked away beneath a cliff or fully exposed on a mile of sand? On these 7 heavenly beaches you won't find any flying volleyballs, loud music, or kids kicking sand on you as they run by. Your only companions here will be relaxation, the sun, and the ocean breeze. It's not just for couples anymore.

1 & 2. Anse Victorin (intro pic) and Anse Macquereau (above) - Seychelles, Fregate Island : It's not just one beach that's solitary luxury, it's the whole island. This private island of outstanding natural beauty is lined by seven dreamy beaches, each a brilliant sweep of powdery white sand. Eco preservation is fundamental here (as is the cash to get here) and with only 16 villas, rest assured this is a tropical seclusion experience like none else.

3. Bora Bora, French Polynesia : I don't think much need be said about these gorgeous Pacific islands. With something like 200 islets dotting Bora Bora’s lagoon, and almost as many tour agencies offering private excursions to them, it’s worth the  splurge. For at least a few hours, you can literally command your own piece of paradise.

5. Red Sand Beach - Maui, Hawaii : On an island as popular as Maui, you’re never going to be truly alone. But if you don’t mind a few fellow escapists, Eden awaits. After a two-hour drive along the notoriously curvy Hana Highway (not as bad as it sounds), you’ll scramble down a slippery cinder path that slides through an ironwood forest (worse than it sounds). Pacific rollers pound a lava rock outcropping that creates a natural swimming pool; on the shore you’ll find sea grapes and a scattering of like-minded explorers—some unclothed—reclining on the rust-red ash from a long-ago volcano.

 4. Playa Soledad, Costalegre, Mexico : This is one spot where you can pretty much get as intimate as you want without fear of jail time. The nearly two-mile-long vanilla shoreline is the private property of Las Alamandas resort, and the insane dirt road leading to it makes it likely you’ll have it all to yourself. Guests who reserve Playa Soledad in advance are shuttled there via Jeep, along with two pink umbrellas, a picnic lunch, and a walkie-talkie, for summoning a ride back.

6. Stonehole Beach, Bermuda : Fortunately, few tourists take the trouble to to get to this beach on and it’s even more surprising that you can get to it via public transportation. Take bus route #7 to Horseshoe Bay, trek down to the water, then start walking to the left. At the beach’s end, wade through waist-high waves, tip-toeing around a couple of limestone outcroppings as you balance your belongings above your head. The reward: Stonehole’s scallop of pink sands, fronted by baby blue sea.

 5. Anegada Island, British Virgin Islands : Set away from the main archipelago and located on a vast coral reef, Anegada is all about total relaxation in a coral beach paradise.
