Since taking a 1 month hiatus after my first blog birthday in March, I thought what better way to get back into blogging than with lots of color, details and design from one of my favorite countries. You may remember some past Jordan posts traveling through Petra and the Dead Sea, but this one is strictly accessories and pieces I came across while there. I looove gypsy style jewelry and items like the beaded tribal mirror below so imagine my delight when I managed to get my hands on an intricate Bedouin ring topped with a cherry quartz. What are your thoughts.. any design fixations related to a country or place?

Mayan Highlands : July Feature for Vecu Magazine

I covered the mysterious land of the Mayans in Guatemala for Vécu's Practical Magic issue. Here's a look at my feature for July.

" There's a certain air in the land of the Mayans in Guatemala. It's like centuries of wisdom, knowledge and sorcery float about, mingling freely with modern day Christian beliefs. Every pattern on their clothes means something, and every now and then, you can actually feel the earth shake. From the colonial streets of Antigua, with it's not so distant volcanoes to the colorful highlands of Chichicastenango to the famous Lake Atitlan - the magic was ever-looming. I went so far as to visit a seer, he spoke mostly Mayan. On my way out, I spotted a high priest walking by with the tell-tale clothing and spear in hand, and dozens of others paying their respects to the gods and past loved ones by burning incense in front of the churches. I'll tell you, it was definitely something to not only be able to see, but also experience the way of the Maya. "

The Coney Island Mermaid Parade

 

How sad I am to be missing this year's Coney Island Mermaid Parade! :-(  Ohh the revelry that I shall have to forgo... But will update with pics from my Miami trip soon!

Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic : Governors Island

Speaking of beautiful things from Buenos Aires, polo star Ignacio 'Nacho' Figueras (above left, whom you probably recognize from these ads) made for the perfect Argentinian import at Sunday's Polo Classic match sponsored by Veuve Clicquot! Held in Governors Island, I was just happy we didn't get rained on, then I somehow telepathically spotted Hugh Jackman... Hugh and Nacho- two of the finest men ever, a great looking crowd, champagne (don't drink but it looks nice! LoL), food, horses I could pet, and good weather.. I was happy as a clam! Hope you enjoy the pics and get the feeling you were there also! :-)

Day-Tripping in Morocco

I hopped on a quick ferry from Tarifa, Spain and spent an interesting day in Tangier, Morocco – wrapping a snake around my neck, dancing with a cobra, admiring the Islamic designs, and shopping through the winding alleys. (Which by the way, smelled like straight up funk.) But what can I say about the smell, they deal with skins and leathers in this town, haha.. Worth the trip anyway!

Santorini Bliss

"Santorini, you are everything people say you are. From your black sand beaches at Perissa to Fira's glowing caldera & all the way to Oia, where seemingly hundreds, maybe even thousands of people line up along the walls and streets every evening to watch those surreal sunsets you're so famous for. You gave me a real run for my money riding up that cliffside on a donkey that got ever-so-close to the edge, lol, but once at the top, it was so worth that view few other places in the world can match. So Santorini, I will see your dreamy landscapes and beaches again, sooner rather than later, only this time I'll make sure to bring a hot little honey with me.. you know, for entertainment purposes :-) ."
